Racing Resumes

43 competitors turned out for the first full course triathlon following the Christmas break. Triathletes were greeted with perfect race conditions, particularly when compared to the scorching weather in last week’s biathlon. In the short course Douglas Foulkes-Taylor produced a consistent effort across all three legs to take line honours in 1.09.23 (30 minute handicap). In a family affair Tom (1.10.54 off 30), Geoff (1.11.14 off 27) and Pam Foulkes-Taylor (1.11.17 off 27) filled the next three placings. The theme of family rivalry continued with Trudy and Scott Newman providing a sprint finish to be separated by a one second margin apart. (Trudy 1.14.01 off 30 and Scott 1.14.02 off 37). Scott Newman’s flat time of 37.02 was the fastest men’s short course time with Jenny Clothier recording the fastest women’s time of 39.54.

In the long course less than 30 seconds separated the first four placegetters with Wayne Stewart recording his first long course victory (1.34.03 off scratch). Club stalwart Graeme Christie (1.34.09 off 15), Rob Parsons (1.34.19 off scratch) and Tim Langley (1.34.28 off 19) filled the next placings. Langley’s flat time of 1.15.28 was a personal best and the fastest recorded time of the day. Julie Kerr (1.27.50) produced the fastest women’s time.
