Kalgoorlie Women’s Tri 2009

Almost there!

It is almost here, the big event you have spent the last 5 weeks training for – The 2009 Kalgoorlie Women’s Tri!!! We hope you are as excited as we are and we can’t wait to see you cross the finish line.

An Invite

The official Kalgoorlie Tri Club season begins this weekend with our season launch on Saturday afternoon. This will be held in the hall at North Kalgoorlie Primary School from 3-5pm. You are all invited so come on down and meet the crew. The next morning will see our first race of the season, if you would like to come down and see how we go about it, be at the back of the Oasis for the 8am start. Following the club race is our run through for the Women’s Tri event. We will begin as soon as the club race is over, if you would like to participate in this be there for 8:45am. We will jump in the pool and swim 100m (2 laps), followed by 1 lap on the bike and then the walk/run. It will give you a chance to see the course and practise moving between each leg of the event. We will ride in groups so no one is left out on their own. This is a good hit out before the event, and also an excellent training session so we hope to see you down there.

Almost Finished

After the run through we only have one week of training left. You should take it easy this week – you want to be fighting fit and well rested so you can enjoy the big day. All training sessions will be relatively light; we will still be working but not nearly as hard as we have been. We have had great numbers at our sessions, even a few in the rain, which is fantastic. If you have been away over the holidays, and are feeling a little apprehensive don’t worry too much. Come on down to the sessions we have, or head out on your own for the week.

The Big Day

As we are almost at the day we have been waiting for, the following will give you all the information you need.

•Before you leave the house be sure you have: bathers, goggles, swim cap, bike, helmet, riding/running clothing, shoes, water bottle, a hat and anything else you feel you need (eg. towel, sunglasses, socks…)

•The day begins with registration. You need to register between 7:10 and 7:35 am so we can send the first lot of participants at 8am.

•We will have three waves and it is a lottery as to which you are placed in. There are some ladies who need to be in the outside lanes, so if you don’t require the edge of the pool while you are swimming please choose an inside lane.

•As you come in the gate at the rear of the Oasis you will need to have your bike and helmet checked by the marshals (this is to ensure your safety and the safety of your fellow participants).

•Once your bike has been checked place it in the transition area and then proceed to the registration table where you will receive your wave, number and shirt.

•A race briefing will begin at 7:40am where we will let you know where to go and any other important info. You must be at the race briefing to participate in the event, so be sure to get down nice and early.

•At the completion of the event you will be justly rewarded and can enjoy the afterglow of achieving your personal goals!!! There will be some food and drinks to help you refuel and celebrate.

The event is timed, and results will be posted up as they come to hand. This may take awhile as there are quite a few participants, however if you are really keen to know your times we suggest you wear a watch and keep track yourself.

Raising Money

Those of you who came along to the seminar will be aware that we are raising money for the Cancer Council as well as the Breast Cancer Foundation. Tonia Neve spoke at the seminar and handed out sponsorship forms, we have attached the form again here so if you can drum up some support (and funds) it would go along way to helping us with a donation to both of these worthy causes. In the past we have made substantial donations to charity as a result of the generosity of those participating in the event.

Lastly, a huge thankyou to the coaches and participants who have made it through the last five weeks. We hope you have enjoyed it, and also that your big day is as much fun as the training has been! Although you might be nervous, you have all worked hard and will cross that line feeling great – WELL DONE.

The Tri Club.

Keep It Up!!

Well done to all of you who have made it through the first few weeks of training, whether that be coming down to the sessions provided or following your own programme.  The first week saw an amazing amount of you attend our coached training sessions which was great.  Hopefully you didn’t go too hard and have enjoyed what has been provided so far.  We are now into the working phase of our programme (not that you haven’t been working hard already) – the next few weeks you will be able to increase your effort as your body is becoming accustomed to all the new physical activity.  This part of the programme is the hardest as you are tired (and maybe a little sore), the race is still a few weeks out and the excitement of beginning has worn off, but KEEP IT UP!  All the hard work you do now is worth it and you are not alone! And for those of you who are having doubts about your ability you will get there.

There will be no swimming training on Monday 28th October due to the long weekend.  If you are super keen head down to the pool after 8am (sleep in!) and do some laps or you could take a well earned rest, preparing for the last 3 weeks of training.  If you are unable to get down for the riding sessions head to an RPM/Spin class, these are great for your overall bike fitness.  You could also jump on the treadmill if you can’t make the run training.

If you started off at the training sessions but have missed a few because your motivation has waned, come back down and find it, or just come on down for a chat with your fellow participants.  You will be excited all over again!!

Once again it is great to see so many of you out training so KEEP IT UP and we can’t wait to see you cross that finish line.  Congratulations to Julie Kerr and the ladies working with her in the pool – you have done so well in the first few weeks.

Women’s Tri Committee

Let’s Get Started!!

Well done to all of you who managed to register for this years women’s tri.  The seminar proved to be a success and was packed full of information.  We will be taking the remaining information packs down to each training session this week, any that have not been collected by Sunday will be given to those who missed out due to registering late.

With the hardest part over – registering – we are now ready to get started!  Training begins on Monday 7th with our very first session in the pool, followed by a run session on Tuesday afternoon.  Outlined below are all the training sessions that will be held weekly up until the BIG DAY!  Remember to start out easy – you can always pick it up in the next session, however you might not see it through if you get injured.  Most injuries are caused by going out too hard too early.  You also want to enjoy the training, that way you are more likely to stick with it.

TRAINING:
Monday: 6-6:45am Swim
Tuesday: 5:30-6pm Run
Wednesday: 6-6:45am Swim
Thursday: 5:30-6pm Run
Friday: 4:30-5pm Swim
Saturday: REST
Sunday: 9-10am Ride

Good luck for the first week and we will see you down at the sessions you can make!!
Tanya, Tonia and Christine.

A note about our kind coaches:  All of our coaches have kindly given up their time to help you succeed in achieving your goal.  They are all volunteers (not paid), and in some cases coaches are skipping or reorganising their own training to make the women’s tri a successful community service.  All of the coaches are accredited and have a wealth of knowledge that they are only too happy to share so don’t be afraid to ask, or head down to the sessions they are providing.

Your $80 goes towards pool and oval hire, insurance, fees and the running of the day, the Kalgoorlie Tri Club hopes to run the event cost neutral which is why it is run and organised by dedicated volunteers who just can’t wait to see you cross the finish line.
